This critical role provides engineering support and professional advice to senior engineers, supporting road and stormwater functions and contributing to the planning and maintenance of infrastructure assets throughout Tweed Shire.
About the role:
- Support the lifecycle management of Tweed Shire’s $1.5B (2023/24) road, bridge, footpath, car park and stormwater drainage infrastructure assets through technical advice and engineering expertise.
- Act as project client for infrastructure works, critically reviewing project scopes, design options, completed works and asset data to ensure alignment with lifecycle objectives and budget constraints.
- Provide engineering support to the Senior Engineer Asset Maintenance and Maintenance Supervisors, assisting in triaging and resolving issues raised by the public or asset owners using sound engineering principles.
- Liaise with internal Council Units, contractors, consultants, Councillors and the public to manage and deliver infrastructure projects effectively and professionally.
- Take on delegated engineering tasks involving a range of complex infrastructure issues, requiring strong decision-making skills, adaptability and effective written and verbal communication in plain English.

We are seeking:
- A qualified professional with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, eligible for membership with Engineers Australia (IE Aust).
- A current Class C Driver’s Licence, enabling site visits and on-ground project support across the Shire.
- Proven experience in civil engineering, including the design, construction, operation and maintenance of roads and stormwater infrastructure assets.
- Strong project and contract management skills, with the ability to coordinate and deliver complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - including customer service, conflict resolution and a solid understanding of environmental and WHS legislative requirements.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
