About the Role

The Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 at DPFC delivers care within a custodial setting, practicing within a recovery framework and using sound judgement to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and maintain a high standard of patient care. This position works with a multidisciplinary team to provide care and facilitate recovery through the use of evidence-based treatment approaches and participation in the delivery of therapeutic programs.

As an RPN 2, you will:

  • Key nursing care coordination, and the
  • Provision of individualised and group therapeutic programs.
  • Delivery of localised tasks specific to the Unit/Team they are working within such as:
  • Provide comprehensive Recovery-oriented assessment and treatment of patients in a custodial setting.
  • Develop a therapeutic relationship that is respectful of the patients’ choices, experiences and circumstances. This involves building on strengths, holding hope and enhancing resilience to promote Recovery.
  • Competently undertake a care coordination role for allocated patients.
  • Formulation and documentation of patient centred Mental Health Recovery Plans, ensuring where possible, families, carers or patient support persons are involved

What you need:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential

Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues. It is able to provide specialist forensic mental health services tailored to meet the specific needs of both sectors.

We provide forensic mental health services for people:

with a serious mental illness in the criminal justice system

at risk of offending who pose a risk to themselves or others

referred from the general mental health system for specialist advice, support and/or treatment.
