Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital
We are currently seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse to join our committed and highly skilled Cardiac Cath Lab. You will provide a high standard of patient care, act as a clinical resource and effectively manage resources to deliver quality patient outcomes. You will be joining a dynamic and dedicated team of caregivers providing exceptional care to our patients using the latest technology and treatment whilst working together to achieve best practice outcomes, clinical excellence and a first class patient experience.
Equipped with the latest in medical technology, the lab is designed to support a wide range of cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures with enhanced precision and patient safety. Its cutting-edge imaging equipment ensures clearer and more detailed visualisations, a crucial factor in successful cardiac treatments. Featuring the best medical imaging technology with minimised radiation doses, safeguarding the health of patients and caregivers.
You will help cater to the pre-operative journey of our surgical patients and provide post-operative care to our day procedure patients, with exposure to a range of specialities including General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Dental, Plastics, ENT (involving a large number of Paediatrics) and Vascular. Our Day Surgery Unit accommodates pre & post-operative Cardiac Cath Lab patients, largely focusing on diagnostic angiograms.
The Position
- Supervise nursing practice and takes responsibility for standard of nursing care delivered.
- Act as a clinical resource, maintains and develops clinical skills relevant to area of practice.
- Initiate reviews and coordinates care of patients with complex health problems.
- Serve as a patient advocate, protecting the rights and safety of patients at all times.
- Evaluate the quality of nursing practice and participates in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes.
- Ensure the correct use and care of all hospital equipment by self and colleagues.
- Actively contribute to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty.
- Ensure documentation meets hospital standards and legal requirements.
- Be aware of and work in accordance with SGJHC policies and procedures, including Equal Employment Opportunity, Confidentiality and Privacy.

- Prioritise departmental workloads using resources appropriately and cost effectively.
- Coordinate the department effectively ensuring continuity of care and takes action on problems encountered.
- Participate in the performance management of caregivers in conjunction with the Nurse Manager.
- Deputise for the Nurse Manager as required.
- Participate in and takes responsibility for the education of other caregivers by conducting formal and informal teaching sessions.
- Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing specific departmental orientation programs with Nurse Manager, acts as a preceptor as required.
- Organise own work and assists colleagues to complete all care duties by end of shift.
- Supervise the practice of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Patient Care Assistants.
- Assist the Nurse Manager with the submission of annual capital budget and business plans relevant to the Department.
- Act as shift coordinator as required and in liaison with the Nurse / After Hours Manager and monitor staffing levels continuously to ensure appropriate numbers of skills staff are available within the agreed productivity targets.
You will hold well-developed leadership skills, including the ability to supervise, give direction and delegate to the team. You will have the ability to plan, assess and develop team and individual performance.
With high level communication skills, knowledge of relevant acts, codes and standards relevant to current practice, you will have the ability to identify and solve problems, including conflict resolution.
You will have demonstrated commitment to personal ongoing education and professional development, with commitment to nursing and other clinical projects that are implemented in order to improve patient care.
To succeed you will hold current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse with significant recent post-registration experience and the ability to practice at an advanced level. Minimum 5 years Cath Lab experience will be essential to the role.

- Salary: $103,883 to $110,954 (pro-rata for part time), plus 12% superannuation
- A permanent part-time position, working minimum 30 hours per week
