The Role
ASD EL1 Technical Lead – JDFPG Lab
You will be responsible for advice and leadership across a range of innovative capability development activities in partnership with multiple Australian and US agencies in the JDFPG research and development lab based in Alice Springs. The JDFPG Lab is the innovation engine at JDFPG, which designs, develops, tests and deploys analytical and processing solutions in direct support to ASD and partner customer’s signals intelligence activities.
Key duties include:
- Represent ASD in the JDFPG Lab while leading a team of analysts and developers.
- Lead and be accountable for the delivery of technical projects alongside a team of engineering, analyst, software and processing developer subject matter experts.
- Support Technical Intelligence Branch in the development and execution of technical activities and initiatives, including those in REDSPICE.
- Strengthen relationships across ASD, JDFPG and with multinational partners.
Note: This is a Monday to Friday day position (not shift work).
ASD EL1 Signals Analyst Intelligence Manager
You will be responsible for advice and leadership across a range of intelligence activities in partnership with multiple Australian and US agencies on the JDFPG Operations floor based in Alice Springs. The JDFPG Operations Floor is a dynamic and highly collaborative environment that brings together diverse skills and technical experiences to achieve mission outcomes.
Key duties include:
- Represent ASD on the JDFPG Operations Floor while overseeing activities including the acquisition, processing and analysis of complex data and technical data sets.
- Direct teams and delegate work to appropriate sub-units within the mission, ensuring priorities and timelines are met.
- Define prioritise and direct internal initiatives related to analysis and development, manage risk expectations for workload and skillsets.
- Act as a technical advisor, including understanding stakeholder needs and contributing to the development of these relationships through providing advice on tradecraft, technical knowledge, policy and legislative requirements and capability development.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders for the dynamic utilisation of multiagency resources to ensure priorities are reasonable and resources sufficient to support mission outcomes.
- Collate customer requirements to ensure understanding across the mission environment and apply judgement in choosing a course of action to manage complex intelligence, or dissemination issues.
- Engage with internal and external networks to exchange views, seek advice and ensure positive outcomes.
- Represent and explain the views of the agency, and the Operations Floor in the context of more complex issues or in a specialist capacity, at cross-agency meetings and other forums.
- Contribute to complex problem solving, issues management or sensitive projects or work programs and/or outcomes that have strategic, capability and/or operational significance.
- Recommend strategic directions for your area of responsibility and consider wider agency implications and strategic context when making decisions in accordance with current legislation and multi-agency policies.
- Develop, document and maintain mission strategies, concept of operations, standard operating procedures, senior briefing and training packages
- Support Technical Intelligence Branch in the development and execution of technical activities and initiatives, including those in REDSPICE.
- Strengthen relationships across ASD, JDFPG and with multinational partners.

About our Team
Technical Intelligence Branch within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) leads engagement in support of ASD’s Assistant Director-General Technical Intelligence (ADGTI). The branch works across multiple ASD teams and plays a crucial role in supporting technical programs, and developing and maintaining relationships at the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap (JDFPG) and various US counterpart Intelligence Communities.
JDFPG is a central element of Australia’s national security and intelligence relationship with the United States and makes a vital contribution to the national security interests of both countries. Our Ideal Candidate
Our Ideal Candidates can have industry experience, formal training or a particular expertise suited to the position, including:
- Demonstrate experience in signals intelligence and an ability to learn and integrate new concepts and information rapidly. Experience in space domain and/or signals intelligence is desirable, but not mandatory.
- Demonstrate technical leadership experience and an ability to engage with highly technical concepts, specifically radio frequency concepts.
- Achieve results, with an emphasis on marshalling professional expertise and delivering on promised outcomes.
- Cultivate highly productive working relationships, with an emphasis on facilitating cooperation and partnerships.

Mandatory Qualifications / Experience
ASD EL1 Technical Lead – JDFPG Lab
- Experience of working on high level strategic planning combined with the ability to execute highly developed interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work in and manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in signals intelligence and working in highly technical teams
- Demonstrated experience in delivering complex systems of projects within a classified environment would be well regarded.

- Proven ability to work in and manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in signals intelligence and working in highly technical teams.
The preferred candidate must hold and maintain a Top Secret Positive Vetting security clearance.
