Role: Peer Services Guide
Location: Redcliffe, Queensland
Hours: Part-time, up to 60 hours per fortnight, some evening and weekend work expected
Contract: Fixed term 12-month contract (strong possibility of extension)

About the role
- Be the first point of contact for individuals seeking support at the Medicare Mental Health Centre.
- Conduct initial engagement and outreach, including warm entry into services.
- Assist individuals during practitioner assessments to ensure their wants and needs are clearly heard and understood.
- Support individuals in identifying their unique needs and preferences through skilled Peer conversations.
- Build trust-based, authentic relationships including: individuals and their families, carers and kin accessing the services, all team members and all relevant stakeholders.
- Demonstrate skills required to appropriately share power and responsibility in the Peer relationship to effectively build the capacity of individuals to confidently navigate relationships in their lives.
- Support individuals in managing complex situations, including responding to distress and crisis intervention using evidence-based peer support frameworks (e.g., IPS, Alt 2 Suicide, and Power Threat Meaning Framework).
Role criteria
- We work with people who are often experiencing difficult and complex life circumstances. A demonstrated ability to respond flexibly and constructively to uncertainty and ambiguity will be required.
- Lived or living experience of mental health challenges or distress, recovery, and navigating systems.
- Strong understanding of the Lived Experience Peer Practice, Intentional Peer Support (IPS) tasks and principles, and person-driven recovery principles.
- Demonstrated experience in providing person-driven peer support services, including responding to distress, one-on-one, group facilitation, and system navigation.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice and skills in responding to distress
Additional requirements
- A current open QLD driver’s license.
- Working with Children card and Working with People with a Disability check (or the ability to obtain one) is mandatory.

Communify’s Medicare Mental Health Centres (MMHC) are safe and welcoming spaces that provide high-quality mental health supports delivered by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and people with a lived experience of mental health. Funded by Brisbane North PHN, the centres provide free, integrated support over extended hours for individuals with moderate to severe mental health concerns and complex life circumstances, as well as support for careers and families.
A key element of the Redcliffe MMHC is the Lived/Living Experience (Peer) Team and the Peer first, Peer throughout, and Peer last model integrated into the MMHC.
