We’re looking for a Lead Engineer to take ownership of high-traffic eCommerce platforms, working across both hands-on PHP/Magento coding and digital solution leadership. You’ll play a critical role in building and optimising our online ecosystem, partnering with architects, product owners, and external vendors.

The Role

This role blends technical leadership with active coding. Around 70% of your time will be hands-on: reviewing and writing PHP code, optimising Magento/Adobe Commerce, and designing backend solutions. The remainder is leadership — managing vendors, validating solutions, and working with stakeholders across the digital team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Hands-on PHP/Magento development (coding, troubleshooting, optimising);
• Reviewing and validating agency/vendor code, ensuring best practices and performance;
• Designing and implementing backend solutions across order management, subscriptions, and fulfilment;
• Partnering with the Solutions Architect and 5 Product Owners to align delivery; and
• Driving agile practices and leading technical discussions across BAU and projects.

Current Projects

• Subscription / Repeat Delivery – designing backend modules for auto-ordering;
• Consignment & Order Splitting – backend fulfilment and shipping logic; and
• App Expansion – coding and supporting new features across the mobile app.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong PHP backend development experience in enterprise environments;
• Deep expertise in Magento/Adobe Commerce (customisation, modules, order flows);
• Ability to review, refactor, and write code to production standards;
• Experience with APIs, middleware, and ERP/OMS integrations;
• Excellent technical problem-solving skills and ability to challenge solutions; and
• Bonus: experience with Shopify Plus, PWA, GraphQL.
