Stirlings to Coast Farmers (SCF) is seeking a motivated and skilled Research & Ag-Tech Coordinator to join our close-knit team in Albany.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in on-farm agricultural research and a solid grounding in ag-tech. You’ll work closely with the SCF CEO and research team to deliver high-quality research and extension that drives innovation and profitability for local farmers. The level of responsibility will be tailored to your skills and experience, offering scope to grow in the role.
We’re looking for someone with hands-on knowledge of broadacre farming systems, a passion for research and technology, and the confidence to engage directly with farmers and industry stakeholders.
About Stirlings to Coast Farmers
SCF is proudly farmer-led and focused on delivering research, development and extension (RD&E) that is practical, independent and locally relevant. Our membership spans around 150km from Albany, covering Frankland River to Wellstead. Most members are mixed farmers, with barley, canola, wheat, sheep & cattle being the main enterprises.
Our team of nine professionals bring expertise across cropping, livestock, ag-tech and communications. We pride ourselves on being collaborative, supportive and professional, with ongoing professional development strongly encouraged by our Board.
The office is based in the heart of Albany on the South Coast of Western Australia. The Albany region is home to some of the most breathtaking beaches in the country, award-winning wineries, beautiful forests and walk trails. Your Role
As our new Research & Ag-Tech Coordinator, you will:
Plan and deliver funded RD&E projects that achieve credible, practical outcomes.
Manage project timelines, budgets and reporting in collaboration with the CEO.
Capture and analyse trial data using drones, GIS and precision ag systems.
Maintain SCF’s ag-tech infrastructure, including the weather station network.
Work directly with farmers to identify research needs and opportunities.
Support grant applications for future projects.
Collaborate with our communications team and deliver practical extension to increase the adoption of new technologies and farming practices.
Build and maintain research partnerships across industry and government.
Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
A degree in Agricultural Science, Agribusiness or related discipline.
A strong understanding of WA broadacre mixed farming systems.
Experience in agricultural research, trial design and data analysis.
Basic knowledge of precision agriculture.
Experience in the use of drones, weather stations and GIS systems.
Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with farmers and groups.
Project management, organisational and reporting skills.
Initiative, self-motivation and flexibility around seasonal work.
A current WA Driver’s Licence (or equivalent).
Current and ongoing working rights in Australia.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
Postgraduate qualifications in agricultural research.
Experience with trials/data management software.
Skills with small plot seeding and spraying equipment.
Local industry experience and networks in the Great Southern/WA.
Chemcert accreditation.
A Heavy Vehicle Licence (or equivalent).
The Employment Package
Competitive salary $80,000–$105,000, based on experience.
