You will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the natural beauty of our communities/Open Spaces with a starting/finishing location either located at the Killarney or Allora Depot or where directed otherwise by the Supervisor. Term: Permanent Full-time

Hours of Work: 76 hours per fortnight

Pay Level: $2361.45 per fortnight (Level 4), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.

Employment Base: Allora or Killarney, Queensland (will be negotiated with successful candidate)

Other Information: Two Parks Field Officers available

East - to cover the towns of Killarney,Tannymorel, Emu Vale, Swanfels, Yangan, Freestone & Maryvale

West - to cover the towns of Allora, Pratten, Cunningham & Leyburn

About the Department

The Parks & Operations Department delivers a range of services internally and externally which contribute to the overall service outcomes of Council. As part of the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate, the Department delivers an extremely diverse range of operational field roles including maintenance of Council parks, gardens, buildings and playgrounds. Other services include management of building service contracts, fleet mechanical repairs and supporting grieving families through our cemetery services. The Department also delivers capital works projects for Council buildings, parks and cemeteries, and as part of its field work manages the procurement and disposal of road vehicles and heavy plant operated by Council.

The complete Key Responsibilities of this role can be found in the Position Description. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Maintenance and development of streetscape, parks and gardens and public areas so as to improve amenities;
  • Basic horticulture and landscaping duties;
  • Attend to various general maintenance requests and rectify issues where possible;
  • Proactively and positively communicate with the general public regarding general parks and gardens maintenance concerns;
  • Preparation of work sites prior to commencement and cleaning up following completion of works;
  • Operation of variety of mowers, machinery, small plant, sprayers and hand-held power tools;
  • Servicing of public toilets and parks, specified club toilets and Council depots, including cleaning walls, floors and sewage fixtures;

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • The legal right to live and work in Australia
  • A person in this position will need to hold a current certificate for Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Parts 1 & 2, or have the ability to obtain;
  • A Class C (car) licence or greater is required in this role;
  • Occupational Health and Safety Construction Card (“White Card”) or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high standards of workplace health and safety at all times during work activities, to ensure self, colleagues and the community are protected from harm at all times;
  • Proven ability in, and strong knowledge of, general garden construction and maintenance, basic horticultural techniques and landscape design;
  • Ability to prioritise workload and complete within set timeframes;
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with members of the public and other Council staff;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively whilst alone and in a small team with limited onsite supervision;
  • Proven ability to complete preventative maintenance on a variety of hand tools and small machinery related to Parks and general reactive maintenance of Council facilities;
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
