Are you passionate about educating the Community and Staff of the Southern Downs Region on sustainability initiatives and contributing to improving environmental outcomes in the Region? This could be the job for you!
This position is responsible for a wide variety of environment-related tasks, such as assisting with investigating and resolving customer requests that relate to sustainability and the environment. You will also actively support the Community Volunteers and Organisations to drive sustainable and environmental outcomes. This role also entails developing Educational and Awareness Programs, and initiatives to engage with the Community along with building capacity to develop improved sustainability and environmental outcomes.
Term: Full-time
Hours of Work: 72.5 hours per fortnight
Pay Level: $2,806.57 to $3,455.97 per fortnight (Level 3 - 5), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading
In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependent on relevant skills and experience.
Employment Base: Warwick, Queensland

About the Department)
The Environmental Services department falls within the Communities, Planning and Environmental Services directorate and plays a critical role in delivering on the liveability of our region. The Regulatory Services, Local Laws and Waste Management teams cover a diverse range of roles and responsibilities from ensuring food and public health safety, investigating environmental nuisance and pollution incidences, animal control, pest management, environmental sustainability programs and planning and building compliance.
Furthermore, the department delivers all aspects of waste operations including roadside collections, waste facilities, investigating waste minimisation and resource recovery opportunities and the strategic management of waste in Southern Downs.

- Maintaining records consistent with Council requirements and the Privacy Principles;
- Use a variety of platforms to increase public awareness and generate ongoing community participation in sustainability and environmental initiatives;
- Support Council Departments in the delivery of programs to meet the outcomes of the Southern Downs Environmental Sustainability Strategy;
- Develop new policies, processes, information sheets and procedures as required by and to support the Environmental Sustainability Strategy implementation;
- Ivestigate customer requests relating to sustainability and the environment.
What You Will Need
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- The legal right to live and work in Australia;
- A relevant qualification of at least degree level and relevant experience OR a combination of qualifications, skills, experience, expertise and competence sufficient to perform the full duties of the position;
- A current Class C (car) licence or greater is required in this role;
- Well-developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills demonstrating an ability to liaise and communicate with all sections of the community and staff;
- Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to formulate, deliver and report on programs and procedures (including budgeting);
- Well-developed research, analytical and problem-solving skills;
- To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
