About the opportunity
At Southern Cross University, we believe education and research drive positive social change. This exciting new role brings together key existing functions under fresh leadership, supporting our mission through financial systems and sustainable growth. As Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting and Reporting, you’ll report to the CFO and lead the accurate capture and strategic management of university revenue, ensuring alignment with our purpose to create positive change in communities locally and globally.
Leading a small, high impact accounts receivable team, you’ll also manage revenue recognition, support revenue budgeting and forecasting, and ensure compliance with Commonwealth funding requirements. You’ll work across diverse systems, from student tuition to clinics and research, helping maximise the resources that power transformative education and research. This is a chance to combine technical expertise with strategic leadership in a university committed to innovation, sustainability, and social good. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Lead all revenue recognition across the University and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and sector specific obligations
- Provide expert guidance to senior leadership and finance teams on Commonwealth grants and revenue planning to support strategic budgeting and reporting
- Engage across various internal SCU teams, particularly across Finance, and external stakeholders, to ensure accuracy in statutory reporting and audit outcomes
- Manage and coach the accounts receivable and revenue reporting functions, fostering a culture of accountability, service excellence, continuous improvement, and a positive, supportive work environment
- Drive system enhancements and cross-system reconciliations that strengthen financial integrity
- Monitor and mitigate financial risk, strengthen internal controls, and provide leadership on financial governance across the revenue lifecycle
About you
You’re a finance leader who brings precision, foresight, and purpose to everything you do. You’re inspired to work in a sector that’s not just about numbers, but about shaping futures, expanding knowledge, and improving lives. With deep experience in revenue recognition and corporate finance, you’re confident advising senior stakeholders, leading change, and building systems that last. You’ll join a high performing Finance team with deep industry experience, along with fresh talent from outside higher education, which has the Finance function on a journey of continual improvement. More specifically, you will have:
- Postgraduate qualification in accounting with CA or CPA accreditation, and substantial experience in revenue-focused finance roles
- Strong knowledge of statutory reporting and revenue recognition, ideally in the higher education sector or similar large, multisite environments
- A collaborative leadership style, with demonstrated success in leading and improving small teams, developing capability and a strong culture, and driving continuous improvement
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to navigate complexity and influence outcomes
- Proficiency with enterprise systems such as TechnologyOne, and strong big data and system reconciliation skills
- A proactive mindset, where you can juggle priorities, solve problems, and ensure nothing slips through the cracks
- Previous higher education experience is preferred, but candidates with the right skill set and a passion for making a difference though education are strongly encouraged to apply
