About our Therapeutic Community – Lower Plenty
The Therapeutic Community (TC) is a long-term residential program that works with residents to establish healthier relationships, promote personal change, and support them in their recovery journey. An essential element of the TC is the individual clients’ relationship to the peer community.
Role Purpose:
The key purpose of the position is to coordinate and support the effective operations and communication between staff and residents, ensuring that daily schedules are adhered to, and information is disseminated in a timely manner for enhanced treatment outcomes for the residents.

Duties include but are not limited to…
- Ensure the effective operation of the schedule and house processes.
- Mentor the Coordinator in effective two-way communication to ensure house business and activity is planned and monitored.
- Ensure all residents complete the orientations for each level and track peer group and individual consequences.
- Support the Operations Team Leader in developing and maintaining the Duty Workers’ understanding of the TC methodology and house processes.
- Assume responsibility for the daily functioning of the TC ensuring appropriate communication and feedback is provided from both staff and residents.
- Respond to events within the facility in a timely manner liaising with staff and disseminating information as relevant.
- Monitor the volume and facilitation of communiqués (conflict resolution groups) and provide feedback to clinical team as required.
- Coordinate the gathering and dissemination of information within the TC by producing daily weekly and yearly schedules of all events that sit outside the usual weekly schedule.
- Respond appropriately to operational emergencies ensuring minimal disruption to TC activities.
- Support the Operations Team Leader to develop and maintain written processes and protocols for the duty worker team.
- Assist the Operations Team Leader in with maintaining an accurate roster and ensuring all duty worker shifts are filled.
- Field phone calls from external agencies and triage these to connect with appropriate TC staff members. Coordinate communication with residents about their psychology assessment appointments.
- Assist in the scheduling, supervision and collection of urine samples from clients on a rostered basis.
- Assist in the evaluation of current processes and in the development, coordination and implementation of new projects as requested.
Key Selection Criteria:
To be successful in this role, you must hold the following qualifications / experience:
- Experience working or living within a Therapeutic Community model.
- Diploma in AOD, or a relevant health/welfare tertiary qualification e.g. in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing or Allied Health Sciences with a minimum AOD skillset requirement (or able to complete within the first 12 months of employment).*
- Demonstrated ability to engage clients in dialogue with the capacity for hands on involvement and ability to transfer knowledge to other.
- Experience in working in the AOD sector/TC environment (minimum 2 years)
- Strong time management skills and demonstrated capacity to balance competing demands and to prioritise work effectively and within timelines.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, be open to giving and receiving feedback, and recognise and resolve interpersonal conflict.
- Ability to review and make responsive changes, take initiative and capacity to work independently, adapting to changing organisational needs.
- Strong organisational and well developed interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a consultative approach to addressing issues.
- Ability to manage relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
