Status: Full time – 37.5 hours per week

Department: Haematology

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced, proficient, motivated and highly organised Senior Scientist to provide support to the Head of Department in all aspects of day to day operations, analytical quality assurance and team management.

About The Role:

§ Participation in rostered shifts within the Haematology Department including public holidays and weekends

§ Providing direction as required to scientists and technical staff within the department

§ Assist with training of junior staff and assessment of workplace competencies

§ Assist in the management and administrative tasks of the department, including rostering and resourcing

§ Stock and equipment management

§ Interpretation and review of QC and QA performance

§ Responsibility for the management of the department in the absence of the Head of Department

Selection Criteria:

1. Appropriately qualified with a tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent and eligibility for membership to the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists

2. Minimum of 5 years laboratory experience as a Medical Scientist with previous experience in a training or supervisory role considered an advantage

3. Advanced haematology, morphology, coagulation and blood banking skills are essential

4. Ability to act independently and within established guidelines, demonstrating initiative, flexibility and sound judgement

5. Experience as an effective and dynamic leader with excellent analytical and problem solving skills

6. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of quality assurance programs and scientific instrumentation/equipment

7. Highly developed organisational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills

8. High level of computer literacy and ability to learn new laboratory information systems

9. Experience in operating and troubleshooting modern automated technology

10. Commitment to continuing professional development, education and training
