STUDENT MENTOR & VET TRAINER
We are currently seeking a motivated team-player to join our basketball program as a Student Mentor and VET Trainer in 2026.
Our basketball classes are located at Mitchell Park and St Clair. Teachers and trainers at these locations deliver a designated sports immersion program in collaboration with our sporting partner the Adelaide 36ers.
You will be joining an exciting, growing and vibrant college that has a genuine focus on its people and the attainment of quality performance. This underpins strong outcomes for young people and the successful applicants' role in this will be exciting, challenging, autonomous and ultimately rewarding.
POSITION OVERVIEW
To work with the teaching and learning team to support student development and learning and provide general support to the teacher in the management/organisation of students and the classroom.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
The core role requirements for the Student Mentor Role are:
Delivering a VET Certificate III
Learning support during class time
General classroom operations support
Industry experience, clinic planning and supervision
Attendance support
Administration and support for student pathway preparation
Supporting student personal development
Working both autonomously and collaboratively
Running or supporting practical sessions
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
A commitment to and passion for changing the game in education
Experience in working with and mentoring young people is essential
Sports coaching experience is essential
Demonstrated capacity to work with and build professional relationships with all stakeholders including young people, parents, and colleagues
Appreciation of curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements
Effective presentation and facilitation skills, and ability to use a range of methods to engage and connect with students
Well-developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build rapport, and interact effectively with a broad range of people at all levels. This includes an ability to liaise directly with parents/carers
Ability to work independently and contribute effectively as a team member to achieve collaborative goals
Strong organisational, planning and time management skills with an ability to prioritise and manage workload, meet deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances
Ability to use problem-solving skills to identify problems and establish appropriate solutions
Proficiency in using ICT and relevant software and database packages
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATES & CLEARANCES
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116 (If not already held, training will be required to be undertaken under a short-term contract arrangement, prior to starting with SCSA on 22nd January, 2026)
Certificate III (held or willing to obtain by RPL)**
Current First Aid qualification inc. CPR and Anaphylaxis Training (held or willing to obtain)
Current Driver’s License
Working with Children Check (WWCC)**
Current RRHAN-EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect)**
**Must be held prior to 22 January, 2026
