Our client, a tier-one mining business, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mining Engineer to join their Perth-based study team for a major international iron ore project. This is a high-profile opportunity to lead the mining study components of a world-class, undeveloped high-grade hematite deposit.

Description

Reporting to the Study Manager, the Principal Mining Engineer will provide strategic technical leadership for the mining study, guiding mine planning, design, and operational strategies. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the project's mining plans are technically robust, cost-effective, and aligned with project objectives and best practice in safety and sustainability. The role will involve working closely with multidisciplinary teams and managing both in-house work packages and outsourced consultancy inputs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mining engineering components of the study, including mine planning, pit optimisation, and production strategy development.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across geology, geotechnical, water, metallurgy, infrastructure, environment, and community teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to external consultants and contractors.

  • Experience in remote, high-rainfall, and rugged terrain environments is highly desirable.
  • Strategic mine planning, economic evaluation, mining software proficiency (GEOVIA Whittle, Minemax Scheduler, or equivalent), dilution modelling, cost estimation, and equipment productivity modelling. Operational experience is an advantage.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Postgraduate qualifications in mining, business, or project management are desirable but not essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, strategic thinker, capable of working independently and collaboratively, able to make sound decisions under uncertainty.
  • French language skills are advantageous but not essential.
  • Familiarity with JORC reporting, autonomous mining systems, low-carbon mining technologies, and integrated mining and infrastructure projects.
  • You must have current right to work in Australia to be considered for this role
