We produce sustainable alternatives to ingredients like palm oil through fermentation. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Synthetic Biologist/Biotechnologist to join our R&D and strain engineering team. We are a dynamic tech startup company focused on innovative biotechnological solutions and the cutting edge of precision fermentation solutions. Our research team is expanding and we seek expertise in designing and constructing synthetic biological systems and analysis techniques to address challenges in fields such as cosmetics, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and execute experiments to develop and optimise synthetic biological systems.

Utilise various analytical chemistry techniques to evaluate the performance of synthetic biological systems.

Utilise CRISPR, gene editing, and other molecular biology techniques to engineer microbial or cellular systems.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including regulatory, commercial , bioinformaticians, chemists, and engineers to develop scalable biotechnological processes.

Analyse experimental data, prepare reports, and present findings regularly to the executive team and potentially at scientific conferences.

Contribute to literature searching and review, patent applications, and the publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Stay updated with the latest developments in synthetic biology and related fields through literature, seminars and conferences.

Potentially mentor junior scientists and technicians, providing guidance and support for their projects.

Qualifications:

Experience in Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience in genetic engineering, molecular cloning, and microbial strain engineering.

Preferred proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R) and bioinformatics tools.

Demonstrated experience and deep knowledge of analytical chemistry and molecular biology techniques (GCMS/LCMS) applied to omics analysis (lipidomics, genomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, proteomics).

Excellent communication skill - both verbal and written - with the ability to present complex scientific ideas clearly and the potential for public speaking opportunities.

Capacity for teaching and mentorship.

Preferred Skills:

Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Strain design and construction experience, DNA construct design, DNA assembly experience (Gibson assembly, yeast assembly, Golden Gate assembly, CRISPR etc).

Analytical chemistry experience (GC-MS, HPLC-PDA-RI, LC-MS/MS).

Lipid extraction and analysis experience.

Experience with proteomics and transcriptomics

Experience with DNA sequencing and sample preparation (Nanopore and Sanger), genomic DNA extraction, plasmid DNA extraction, RNA extraction, protein purification, sequencing data analysis.

Ability to perform PCR/genomic DNA colony screening.

Fermentation experience (bioreactor, shake flasks, Amber250).

Knowledge of regulatory standards and ethical considerations in biotechnological research.
