The People Portfolio at UniSQ plays a key role in shaping and supporting a culture and work environment which puts people at the centre of organisational design, function and decision making. The Manager (Remuneration and Benefits) leads the University’s payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance with employment legislation and Enterprise Agreement provisions, and strategic alignment. Overseeing payroll, employee benefits, remuneration, and data integrity in PeopleSoft HCM, the role also drives governance through auditing, risk assessment, and compliance advisory to the Director (Workplace Relations & Operations). Accountable for timely payroll delivery and team leadership, the manager ensures high-quality service across the University, liaises with external stakeholders for regulatory alignment, and collaborates with Workplace Relations specialists to uphold a compliant and reputable pay environment, particularly for casual and fixed-term staff.
Who you are
You are a strategic leader with at least six years’ experience in senior payroll roles within large, complex organisations. You hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management, Accounting, Business, Commerce, or a related field. You have a deep understanding of payroll operations, compliance, and governance, and are skilled at interpreting employment legislation, industrial instruments, and organisational policies. Your communication skills are excellent, and you thrive in collaborative, high-performing environments, always upholding the values of respect, integrity, and excellence.
What you'll do
You will lead the University’s payroll operations, ensuring accurate and compliant delivery of the fortnightly payroll, including pay run execution, reconciliation, superannuation, and authorised deductions. You’ll oversee the Payroll Services team, maintain the PeopleSoft HCM system, and act as the primary advisor on payroll compliance and strategic implications. Your responsibilities include resolving complex payroll issues, leading audits and risk assessments, providing high-quality advice to internal clients, collaborating with external stakeholders, and driving continuous improvement in payroll processes and controls. You’ll also contribute to University-wide projects and policy reviews to enhance payroll efficiency and service quality.
What will help you succeed
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and significant experience in payroll leadership.
- Proven ability to manage end-to-end payroll processes and resolve complex discrepancies.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on fostering excellence and accountability.
- High-level expertise in interpreting employment legislation, industrial awards, and enterprise agreements.
- Advanced proficiency with Human Capital Management Systems (e.g., PeopleSoft HCM), data integrity, and reporting.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and analytical skills, with a commitment to confidentiality and continuous improvement.

Salary: Total remuneration range $155,455 to $164,471 pa (includes salary range of $131,103 to $138,706 pa, employer super contributions of 17% and annual leave loading)
