Your new role
As the EL1 Financial Accountant, you will lead a small finance team and report directly to the Chief Financial Officer. You will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with legislative and policy frameworks, and delivering high-quality financial reporting and analysis.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing day-to-day activities of the Finance team and reviewing outputs.
- Preparing internal management reports, annual financial statements, and submissions to CBMS.
- Leading month-end processes including journals, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Overseeing supplier payments, credit card expenses, and royalty distributions.
- Preparing Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS) and MYEFO updates.
- Ensuring compliance with GST and FBT obligations and providing expert advice.
- Contributing to financial policy development and continuous improvement.
- Providing strategic accounting advice and resolving complex financial issues.
- This role is based in Canberra, with occasional travel to other sites.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Extensive experience in financial management within the Australian Government.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
- Professional accounting qualifications (CA or CPA).
- Proficiency in TechnologyOne, XLOne reporting, and CBMS.
- You must be an Australian Citizen and able to pass a Federal Police Check.
