Your new role
As the EL1 Financial Accountant, you will lead a small finance team and report directly to the Chief Financial Officer. You will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with legislative and policy frameworks, and delivering high-quality financial reporting and analysis.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing day-to-day activities of the Finance team and reviewing outputs.
  
• Preparing internal management reports, annual financial statements, and submissions to CBMS.
  
• Leading month-end processes including journals, accruals, and reconciliations.
  
• Overseeing supplier payments, credit card expenses, and royalty distributions.
  
• Preparing Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS) and MYEFO updates.
  
• Ensuring compliance with GST and FBT obligations and providing expert advice.
  
• Contributing to financial policy development and continuous improvement.
  
• Providing strategic accounting advice and resolving complex financial issues.
  
• This role is based in Canberra, with occasional travel to other sites.
  

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Extensive experience in financial management within the Australian Government.
  
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  
• Proven leadership and team management experience.
  
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
  
• Professional accounting qualifications (CA or CPA).
  
• Proficiency in TechnologyOne, XLOne reporting, and CBMS.
  
• You must be an Australian Citizen and able to pass a Federal Police Check.
