Light Regional Council is a diverse region that encompasses a significant portion of the iconic ‘Barossa”, prime agricultural land, the historic townships and settlements of Kapunda, Freeling, Wasleys and Greenock, and the rapidly expanding suburbs of Hewett and Roseworthy.

With a focus on sustainable growth for the community within its environmental and financial means, the region is located approximately an hour’s drive from the Adelaide CBD, with connectors including the Northern Expressway, Gawler Bypass, and the Thiele Highway.

Covering an extended leave vacancy, this role will oversee a diverse team and portfolio and is part of the Executive Leadership Team.

Reporting to the Acting CEO, key responsibilities will include:

Leading by example the cultural aspirations of the organisation

Developing and leading the General Management Business Plan for their area of responsibility ensuring that it aligns with the Council’s Strategic Management Plan (SMP)

Ensuring the creation and implementation of strategies designed to realise the relevant components of the SMP

Leading the daily operations of the department by actively participating in decision making deliberations, communicating organisational direction, outcomes and relevant actions, and giving clear direction to teams within their portfolio

Undertaking advocacy for healthcare, transport and other critical community service areas

Ensuring environmental sustainability and agriculture protection, including associated industries

Enhancing community engagement for all ages and backgrounds

Ensuring Council’s legislative responsibilities are met

Effective delegation of responsibilities across all portfolio areas

Managing and mitigating strategic risks and ensuring the safety of workers.

With highly developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to pivot between hands on and strategic functions, this role will appeal to either an aspiring executive leader with relevant , proven expertise, or a seasoned professional looking for a broad role close to the action and community.

Proven experience in strategic planning, community development, project management, and diverse stakeholder engagement will be critical to success, ideally from a local government, community services or related sector or setting.

Tertiary qualifications are preferred but not essential.
