About Northern Health:
Northern Health is seeking applications from motivated and experienced Critical Care Registered Nurses to join our Intensive Care Unit in a Fixed Term capacity.
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our five main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.
About the Role:
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Northern Health is an 18-bed unit managing over 1,100 admissions annually.
Staffed by qualified Critical Care Nurses and Intensivists, the ICU also provides critical outreach services including the ICU Liaison Nurse, Medical Emergency Team, parenteral nutrition, and tracheostomy follow-up.
We are committed to continuous professional development, offering accredited postgraduate training, regular in-service education, and opportunities for staff-led research and learning.
Clinical Support Nurses are available seven days a week to enhance bedside learning and support.
Critical Care Registered Nurses are accountable for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within their scope of practice, adhering to professional standards, legislation, and Northern Health policies, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
This role is responsible for:
- Delivering safe, evidence-based, patient-centred care in a complex ICU environment
- Monitoring and managing critically ill patients using advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Supporting junior, graduate, and postgraduate nursing staff through mentorship and clinical supervision
- Participating in ICU outreach services including Medical Emergency Team and Liaison Nurse roles
- Contributing to quality improvement initiatives, research, and service development within the ICU
- Accurately documenting patient care and maintaining compliance with EMR standards and hospital protocols
- Collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes and flow
- Upholding Northern Health's values and safety standards while working within professional and organisational guidelines
