About the role
As an Aboriginal Health Worker in Alice Springs, you will play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of the local Indigenous community. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those you serve. You will work closely with our Mental Health Practice Manager and Social Worker to:
- Support and engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their families
- Provide cultural advice and guidance to lawyers and staff
- Build strong relationships with care teams, NDIS providers, and mental health services
- Assist clients in navigating complex court and justice processes
- Travel to remote communities and bush courts (including overnight stays)
- This role is vital in creating a culturally safe, supportive link between clients, families, and NAAJA staff—ensuring our most vulnerable community members are heard and respected.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Knowledgeable about Aboriginal culture, community, and the impacts of colonisation
- Understanding of mental health illnesses and cognitive impairments in Aboriginal communities
- A strong communicator with the ability to engage respectfully with clients, families, and stakeholders
- Confident in working independently and as part of a small team
- Able to travel to remote communities and hold a current NT driver’s licence
- Willing to obtain a Working With Children clearance (Ochre Card) and clear a criminal history check
- Satisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice
