The Cathedral School is seeking an experienced Secondary School Teacher to take on the role of Head of Health and Physical Education commencing in January 2026. This middle leadership position's role is to ensure the delivery of Health and Physical Education curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment in the Middle and Senior School. The Head of Department - Health and Physical Education is a permanent full-time teaching role, with a 5-year leadership tenure as Head of Health and Physical Education.
The position of Head of Department is responsible for:
- Leading the delivery of department curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment in the Middle and Senior Schools.
- Developing the quality of teaching and learning in the department, by guiding teachers’ development of professional knowledge, professional practice, and professional engagement.
- Improving student learning outcomes by evaluating and revising programs and instructional classroom practice, analysing student data, taking account of feedback from students, parents, and colleagues, and considering current research on effective teaching and learning.
- Creating an environment that is positive, professional, collegial, and responsive to the mission, aims, and strategic direction of the school.
What We’re Looking For
- A qualified teacher with a degree in a Health and Physical Education related field.
- Current teaching registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.
- Strong classroom management and excellent communication skills.
- An excellent understanding of the Australian Curriculum and relevant QCAA syllabuses.
- Expertise in developing curriculum and scope and sequence documentation for a Faculty/Department.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a learning team.
- Demonstrated understanding and application of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and the Australian Teacher Performance and Development Framework.
- The ability to lead data-informed conversations.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and student success.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
- Relevant expertise in teaching Years 7-12 Health and Physical Education.
