About the Law Council of Australia
The Law Council of Australia represents the legal profession at the national level, to speak on behalf of its Constituent Bodies on national issues, and to promote the administration of justice, access to justice and general improvement of the law.
The Law Council advises governments, courts, and federal agencies on ways in which the law and the justice system can be improved for the benefit of the community. The Law Council also represents the Australian legal profession overseas and maintains close relationships with legal professional bodies throughout the world.
The Law Council was established in 1933 and represents 16 Australian state and territory law societies and bar associations and the Law Firms Australia, which are known collectively as the Council’s Constituent Bodies.
The Secretariat serves the Law Council nationally and is based in Canberra.
About the Section
The Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia is the largest professional association for family law practitioners, with a membership of more than 3,000 from all Australian States and Territories and internationally.
The Section is constituted, organised, and regulated by by-laws approved by the Executive Officers of the Law Council of Australia. The work of the Section is guided by its strategic plan.
About the Role
The Membership and Administration Assistant reports to and works in close co-operation with the Operations Coordinator, Family Law Section.
The Membership and Administration Assistant will also work closely with the Executive Officer, the Executive, Members, and any external contractors and consultants engaged by the Family Law Section.
Duties and Responsibilities
Membership
Membership database management (including data entry and running extracts to maintain membership records).
Prepare statistical and financial reports relating to member services and engagement.
Process membership applications and renewals.
Liaise with and provide contact point for enquiries from members, in a timely and professional manner.
Provide quarterly membership reports by state/territory to Executive members.
Work with the Executive Officer, Family Law Section to develop and implement membership recruitment and retention strategies.
Work with the Executive Officer on social media engagement strategies and implementation.
Administration
Manage the electronic filing system, including file structure and archiving.
Manage, update and maintain the FLS website.
Provide support to draft, format, edit, and proofread various communications as required, including regarding the website, app and social media.
Work with the Executive Officer to provide administrative and strategic support on branding and online presence, including for example on website development.
Support
Liaise with external IT providers regarding website, apps and software relating to membership, events and publications.
Use membership, event and publication software including Adobe Creative Cloud, In Design, Premiere Pro, Joomla and/or ACY Mailing systems to interact with members and prospective members.
Provide support from time to time for the preparation and execution of Executive meetings and FLS events.
Work with the Operations Coordinator to provide general administrative support for the Family Law Section Executive and Executive Officer, as required.
Such other support as may be required for the Family Law Section team.
Some overnight interstate travel may be required.

Good written and verbal communication skills, including a high attention to detail.
Highly developed interpersonal skills and capacity to work with a diverse membership base.
Experience working with databases, CRMs and large data sets.
Demonstrated reliability in meeting deadlines, setting realistic goals and prioritisation skills.
Great at being a team player and working with a small group of colleagues.
Desirable
A working knowledge of website coordination, development and maintenance.
Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud, In Design and Premiere Pro highly regarded.
A working knowledge of Joomla and/or ACY Mailing systems highly regarded.
Base level understanding of legal terminology highly regarded.
