About The Team

Murdoch University is home to the only School of Veterinary Medicine in Western Australia. Its teaching hospital and post-mortem facilities enables students to have clinical 'hands-on' opportunities. It also provides a service to community through its team of specialists.

Your New Role!

You will support and coordinate technical aspects of teaching, research and diagnostic activities undertaken in the necropsy suite, including hands on involvement in animal postmortems. This position is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and good order of the necropsy suite and for maintaining accurate client records and pathology databases.

You will also be working with the broader Anatomy and Pathology Team to provide cover and support for the Anatomical Pathology Technician, as well as other team members.

Your Key responsibilities will include -

  • Maintain necropsy suite operations - ensure cleanliness, equipment readiness, and proper disposal of remains
  • Support pathology services - assist with necropsies, sample handling, data entry, and technical support for teaching and research
  • Manage records and compliance - document procedures, maintain SOPs, and ensuring adherence to university and legislative standards

This Fixed Term (12 Months) | Full Time (37.5 hours per week) attracts a remuneration of $ 79K- $88K plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Completion of a relevant degree or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in industries with a transferrable skillset to the necropsy technician position.
  • Knowledge of necropsy techniques and procedures and a demonstrated ability to work with animal cadavers and animal specimens.
  • Experience maintaining accurate laboratory records and notes and excellent organisational skills with ability to prioritise tasks and cope with competing demands.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to be an effective team member.
  • Good computer skills with word processing, spreadsheet and database experience plus the ability to learn new programs such as EzyVet.
