We currently have an opportunity for a Project Manager in Canberra to work on Space projects.

Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future.

Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for a Project Manager in Canberra to work on Space projects.

What You'll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

  • Prepare and review project documentation, including management office plans and Gate 2 deliverables, to support project governance and execution.

  • Conduct planning, scheduling, estimating, and risk assessments to ensure alignment with project requirements and manage major risks.

  • Participate in tender evaluations and develop procurement documentation, including evaluation reports, negotiation directives, and contract reports.

  • Develop and update technical documentation, interface definitions, and safety and security plans to support system certification and accreditation.

  • Support logistics planning and documentation across the capability lifecycle, ensuring dependencies and FIC elements are addressed in project strategies.

What You'll Bring

  • Project Planning and Documentation - Ability to develop and manage project office plans, Gate 2 documentation, and ensure alignment with Defence Capability Life Cycle requirements.

  • Scheduling and Risk Management - Skilled in planning, estimating, and conducting risk assessments, including tracking major risks and supporting risk reduction activities.

  • Tender Evaluation and Procurement Support - Experience participating in tender evaluations, developing procurement documentation (e.g. ODIA, TEWG reports, SERs), and providing expert advice on contractor capabilities.

  • Technical and Interface Oversight - Competence in reviewing and updating technical specifications, interface documentation, and supporting safety and security planning for certification and accreditation.

  • Stakeholder Coordination and Reporting - Proven ability to work under direction, manage dependencies, support logistics planning, and report progress against work packages to senior leadership.

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
