Harbour, Refuge and Support Services Family and Domestic Violence [FDV] Refuge Advocates work in a collaborative, client-centred, case management context. They deliver a cohesive service across a 24/7 roster, through strong communication, and by working independently while seeking instruction when required. Their role includes risk assessment, safety planning, support planning and advocacy, for women and children at risk of harm through FDV, as well as practical tasks such as routine errands and basic housekeeping. Advocates must be able to plan their tasks across a shift, execute them efficiently, and reset priorities when circumstances change.

A number of shifts are available as a Casual relief :
Night shift with sleep and awake shift rates 6.15pm to 7.15am
Day shifts 7am-2pm
9am-3pm or 11am to 7pm
You must be able to work a variety of shifts.
About You
You must be both ‘people person’ and task manager. Able to balance empathy and support, with the ability to hold people accountable, and take charge in a crisis. You need to be flexible, and calm under pressure, with a strong understanding of FDV and trauma. We take a non judgemental approach to our clients. Maintaining consistent high quality service is crucial. This comes from being a great communicator and trustworthy operator who is willing to learn and practice continual improvement.
Selection Criteria
Ability to work with women or people in crisis, with a focus on family and domestic violence
Understanding of, and ability to assess and respond to, risk and safety issues in the context of family and domestic violence
Understanding cross cultural issues, and skills to work with women from all backgrounds in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner
Ability to work within a collaborative case management context, and support an effective team culture
Ability to work independently (within the scope of the role as defined in the job description, policies and procedures) to make decisions, problem solve, and manage time and tasks
Demonstrated ability to deal with challenging behaviours
Demonstrated ability to maintain personal and professional boundaries and confidentiality
Ability to demonstrate commitment to organisational Values, Vision and Mission in day to day work
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated IT skills including MS Office suite
Qualifications:
Certificate IV in Community Services or similar.
Experience in mental health, trauma, crisis services is desirable.
Current National Police Clearance Certificate and Working with Children Check
Current WA ‘C’ Class Drivers License
Current Senior First Aid Certificate
