Join our team as a tour guide at the Brisbane Opal Museum!

You will welcome and introduce visitors from all over the world to our national treasure, the precious opal.

The museum tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. As a tour guide, you will share knowledge about the formation of precious opal, the different types of precious opal, interesting stories from opal miners, and show them the opal collection.

Our guides are well-presented, sociable, have good voice projection, and are able to improvise. We are seeking an individual who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and who can adapt to various situations.

It will be a plus to have knowledge about Brisbane, its museum/art gallery scenes.

Currently, we have 2 types of tours:

Self-Guided Tour: Visitors enjoy the museum at their own pace with our digital tablets. This tour includes an audio-visual self-guided tour, a pass to all museum displays, and a viewing of our most valuable and amazing opal specimens. This tour is available every day of the week.

Guided Tour: Visitors have a personal opal tour guide, a pass to all museum displays, and a viewing of our most valuable specimens. The tour is available once a day at midday. Booking is essential.

We have a jewellery shop, adjacent to the museum. It is the only shop in Brisbane that specialises in opal. The shop showcases an extensive range of opal jewellery and loose unset opals.

The Position Includes:

Delivering high-quality customer service face to face, as well as via email, phone, and text.

Assisting with administration and minor museum-related tasks.

Ideal Candidate:

Friendly, well-focused, and organised individual.

Previous museum tour guide experience.

The position is for 9:30 am - 5:00 pm, 3 days a week minimum, with the opportunity to expand to more days. Working occasionally on weekends is a plus to your application.

This position is for 9 months.
