The Role
Signals Intelligence Analysts perform and achieve complex research, analysis and operational tasks to support the collection, production and dissemination of signals intelligence.
Successful candidates will receive specialised on-the-job training, and access to relevant industry-related courses to develop your skills and help you build people networks across the National Intelligence Community.
Key Duties include:
ASD 4 Signals Intelligence Analyst:
- Investigate, research and analyse moderately complex information and collect data to assist in the production of signals intelligence, tailored to stakeholder requirements.
- Conduct research and analysis of signals intelligence data including using data literacy techniques to collate, manipulate and transform data.
- Evaluate collected data and information to guide capability development, and analytical tradecraft to support mission outcomes.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with team members and actively participate in teamwork and group activities.
- Use a variety of information and communications technology, record keeping, and information management systems and analytical tools to conduct signals analysis.
- Interpret legislative, policy and security frameworks.
ASD 5 Signals Intelligence Analyst:
- Evaluate, interpret and analyse collected data and information to further collection, processing and analysis to support mission outcomes.
- Research and analysis of signal intelligence data using data literacy techniques to collate, manipulate and transform data.
- Developing expertise on geopolitical issues and regional cultures.
- Instruct, train and develop signals intelligence analysts and provide guidance to less experienced staff.
- Build and sustain effective relationships within and across teams, and actively participate in team work and group activities.
- Understand stakeholder needs and expectations to meet intelligence requirements and provide advice.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of legislative, policy, and security frameworks.
- Use a variety of information and communications technology, record keeping, information management systems, and analytical tools to conduct signals analysis.
ASD 6 Signals Intelligence Analyst:
An ASD 6 Signals Intelligence Analyst may be a team lead and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows.
- Perform and achieve complex research, analysis and operational tasks to support collection, production and dissemination of signals intelligence and provide technical advice.
- Prioritise collected data and information to develop further collection, processing and analysis to support future mission outcomes.
- Develop and utilise bespoke tools and techniques in order to manage the production of intelligence.
- Maintain high-level expertise on geopolitical issues and regional cultures.
- Build, sustain and promote effective relationships within and across teams. Mentor junior analysts in the development and growth of their professional skills and knowledge.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to meet their requirements, manage expectations and provide general signals intelligence advice.
- Maintain high-level knowledge of legislative, policy, and security frameworks.
- Use a variety of information and communications technology, record keeping, information management systems, and analytical tools.
About our Team
The Regional Intelligence (RI) Branch is responsible for delivering foreign intelligence to the Australian Government on key issues that impact the Indo-Pacific region. RI Branch works closely with other National Intelligence Community agencies on the Indo-Pacific, ensuring Australian policy agencies have the intelligence they need to advance Australia’s national security interests in the region. RI Branch is a diverse, multi-disciplinary workforce, geographically dispersed across Australia.
Adversary Threat Intelligence (ATI - ACSC) collects intelligence on state-sponsored malicious cyber activity targeting Australia to enable incident response and the protection of critical Australian Government systems.

ASD4:
ASD4 Signals Intelligence Analysts are curious individuals who have a passion for researching and understanding geopolitical issues, regional countries and cultures. These analysts are willing to learn from others to sharpen their analytical skills on the job as well as take responsibility for developing and improving their existing skills and knowledge. They will work to the direction of senior analysts, their team leaders and intelligence managers, but can work independently and undertake self-study with minimal supervision.
ASD5:
ASD5 Signal Intelligence Analysts are curious and enthusiastic analysts who do not shy away from hard problems. Through a healthy level of inquisitiveness, they analyse, manipulate and process disparate signals data to draw conclusions and derive intelligence. They foster a collaborative environment through mentoring junior analysts and learning from more experienced analysts. They are able to work across both teams and sections to achieve results. They engage with stakeholders to understand intelligence requirements and share the subject matter expertise.
ASD6:
ASD6 Signal Intelligence Analysts are skilled, experienced and creative analysts. They thrive in challenging environments to solve intelligence and analytical problem; they are motivated to learn new skill specialisations. These analysts already have or can develop deep knowledge of the geo-political and strategic environment facing the Indo-Pacific. They are willing to mentor, guide, encourage and coach junior analysts. They can build and sustain working relationships across the organisation, enabling them to learn from a broader network of individuals.
ASD is seeking applicants to fill current and anticipated vacancies and to create a merit pool for future vacancies. In line with the Australian Public Service Commissioner’s Direction 2022, upon completion of the recruitment activity, the merit pool will be available to locations across Australia.
