About the Project

We are launching a new initiative to improve the physical health outcomes of young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Nurse to join our team and support the Youth Homelessness Health Service, co-located at headspace Southport and headspace Upper Coomera.

Your Opportunity

In this role, you will be addressing the health needs of all homeless youth by utilising existing facilities and integrating with other services.

You will provide high-quality nursing care in physical and sexual health services, conduct comprehensive health assessments for young people, develop and implement treatment plans for clients with complex health needs, and manage a diverse caseload with minimal supervision.

This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of homeless youth. You will work in a supportive and dynamic environment with access to fully equipped treatment rooms at our headspace centres.

Initially, this is a full-time (38 hours per week) maximum term contract position until 30 June 2026 with the intention to extend to June 2026.

The position pays $108,475.29 - $116,022.03 plus superannuation and the opportunity to take advantage of salary packaging benefits.

Who we are looking for

You will be an experienced Nurse who is passionate about youth mental health. In addition you will have the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain empathy and compassion when working with young people experiencing symptoms and behaviours associated with AOD use, mental health problems, experience of trauma, or cognitive impairment, or a combination of these.
  • Proven capacity to work flexibly in a community-based setting and provide support and leadership in response to clinical incidents.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and extended practice in evidence-based clinical management, diagnostic investigation, and pharmacological management of young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Highly developed skills in conducting clinical assessments and making clinically informed decisions for provision of effective nursing interventions.
  • Highly developed consultation, communication, and interpersonal skills, to engage effectively with diverse clients, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Possess current registration as a Clinical Nurse with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)
  • A flexible, open, and engaging approach – you’ll be working with a range of clients with differing needs and complexities

You’ll also resonate with our values, and evidence them in your day to day working life:

  • We are humble, human, and full of hope
  • We show up and share
  • We ask, “Why not” and “What’s next?”
  • We leave a positive wake

Benefits of Working with us

This is a great opportunity to pioneer an essential new service for young people in need of support.

You will have a lot of autonomy in setting up this new service. With a strong focus on evidence-based practice and clinical excellence, you’ll be challenged to extend your knowledge. We also offer:

  • Regular clinical supervision, case conferencing and debriefings.
  • Fitness Passport membership access to a wide range of gyms, pools, and fitness and leisure centres across Australia, at a discounted rate.
  • Perkbox Discounts – save on everyday items including groceries, petrol, and leisure activities a wide range of retailers.
