We’re seeking an APS 6 Project Manager who can bring initiative, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.
APS 6 Project Managers are accountable to perform and achieve complex project management work within an integrated product team. You will work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of your work. You will exercise both initiative and judgment in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures.
You will lead and develop a high-performing team and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows. You are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others with their respective Integrated Project Team across varying disciplines.
You will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement across all levels of the APS, Military Personnel and our Industry Partners in relation to complex or difficult issues. You will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve project team and Defence outcomes, and will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
This recruitment activity seeks to fill APS6 Project Manager roles across the GWEO Enterprise of Air, Land and Maritime Branches.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Note: This position will be required to access US export controlled materiel and therefore applicants will be requested to disclose any dual citizenship with another country during the recruitment process. Dual citizens may be subject to further assessment and appointment to this position will be conditional upon approval to access US controlled export material in accordance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Systems Division is responsible for the GWEO capability life cycle. This includes the acquisition, sustainment and disposal of all guided weapons and explosive ordnance for Defence

As an APS 6 Project Manager you will be required to demonstrate a wide range of skills, however the specific competencies below are critical to success within APS Project Management roles.
- Leadership and Initiative – lead by example, take responsibility, calculate risks, demonstrate initiative, lead and build a high-performing team.
- Stakeholder Engagement – be a clear communicator with the ability to quickly build relationships, network, and interact well across all levels of the APS, Military Personnel and our Industry Partners.
- Analyse and Execute – seek clarity, make judgements, think systemically, problem solve, produce solutions and execute on those solutions.
- Planning and Organisation – set objectives, plan, establish contingencies, manage time, resources, risk and people, and monitor progress.
- Adapt and Respond - accept new ideas, adapt to interpersonal styles, show sensitivity to different cultures or backgrounds and the ability to adapt to changing requirements and respond appropriately.
- Develop and present clear and concise briefing material for a wide range of stakeholders.
