The Auto Innovation Centre (AIC) is growing and has an exciting job opening for an Automotive Test Engineer. This facility supports the testing, engineering and development of new vehicles and products by Australian and International manufacturers, by giving them access to vehicles, data, high-tech tools and testing services. The AIC is a bricks and mortar facility with a comprehensive on-line database to access all data collected for vehicles.

The AIC is an exciting company in the automotive industry. Co-located and wholly owned by the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), the AIC increases the capabilities of Australian businesses and aids in the development of new automotive aftermarket products for local and export markets. The AIC is modelled on the highly successful USA facility – The SEMA Garage: (https://www.semagarage.com/) This facility supports the testing and development of new automotive products by Australian advanced manufacturing businesses, by giving them access to vehicles, data, high-tech tools and testing services.

This role is considered a full time on-site position in Melbourne South Eastern Suburbs. Some WFH opportunities are available as mutually agreed and dependent on workload but this role has a high amount of hands-on workshop and track testing included

Primary Objectives / Job Purpose:

To support the ongoing operations and growth of the AIC by:

Leading and executing vehicle testing at proving grounds to relevant Australian Design Rules (ADRs), Australian and international standards, state regulations, and custom test programs

Creation and continual improvement of AIC testing processes and procedures to improve efficiecies and accuracy including custom coding and proprietary software setup

Scheduling, preparing, performing, and reporting component testing to various ADRs, Standards and custom testing on AIC test equipment

Document and grow the AIC vehicle database which hosts all data gathered from vehicle measuring sessions, published, acquired, and test data

Supporting testing and simulation programs within the AIC by demonstrating a sound understanding of vehicle dynamics and testing-based disciplines

Qualifications & Experience:

Technical background in the automotive sector is critical and engineering and/or product development qualifications and experience required

Strong driving skills and ability to test vehicles for the purpose of test compliance and data acquisition

Experience and understanding of testing and standards interpretation required

Excellent understand of engineering principles and validation methods

Engineering degree (mechanical or automotive) highly regarded but not essential

Previous experience in data gathering through measurement and research

Current Open Drivers Licence (manual) essential

Knowledge of Octave and Matlab coding languages and intermediate-advanced coding skills required

Clear and pragmatic communication style
