Coonamble Aboriginal Health Service (CAHS) is seeking an enthusiastic person to fill the full-time position of Alcohol and Other Drugs Outreach Worker. This role will work closely with the clinical team in the delivery of primary health care. The role can be located at any of our locations, namely Coonamble AMS, Gilgandra AMS or Dubbo AMS. The successful applicant will need to travel as part of this job should they choose to be located at Dubbo or Gilgandra.
Alcohol and Other Drugs Outreach Worker plays a vital role in the primary health workforce. They provide clinical and primary health care for individuals and families. They deal with patients, clients and visitors and are responsible for delivering a therapeutic model of care. They also provide support to Aboriginal clients with drug and alcohol dependence issues across the three AMS and surrounding communities. You will promote a client-focused holistic approach when engaging with clients affected by alcohol and other drug use issues and empower clients by facilitating approaches to and participation in, alcohol and other drugs programs and services.
NOTE: This is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identified position authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.
Key Selection Criteria
Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander with ability to provide proof of Aboriginality (mandatory),
AQTF Certificate III in Community Work and/or Certificate IV in Alcohol and other Drugs (or currently studying towards or willing to obtain),
Experience either professionally, community based, or family related in supporting Aboriginal people and their families who have alcohol and other drug issues,
An understanding of the current health issues relevant to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities such as chronic diseases,
Demonstrated effective communication skills,
Demonstrated ability to build rapport,
Demonstrates a commitment to the CAHS code of conduct, equal employment opportunity, work health & safety and cultural safety framework
Current nationally coordinated criminal history check, NSW working with children’s check and unrestricted class C or P2 driver’s license.
Additional Factors
Experience working in an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation or providing community health to Aboriginal communities.
Current First Aid & CPR certificates
Proof of vaccination must be provided upon acceptance of appointment.

Remuneration will be based on qualifications and experience.
