About the team

The Beaches team is part of the Community Facilities and Open Space Asset Planning and Management business unit in the City of Gold Coast’s Infrastructure Lifecycle, Planning and Performance department. The team’s focus is on managing coastal hazards and providing clean, healthy and accessible beaches for the community. We are a high performing team of enthusiastic and innovative coastal engineers and officers. As an inclusive team with a range of perspectives and opinions we are always open to new ideas and ways we can enhance the Gold Coast way of life through coastal management. About your new role

The Senior Coastal Structures Engineer is responsible for coastal engineering services and project management related to initiating, coordinating and delivering the Oceanway Missing Links project for the Open Spaces - Beaches team. This role will develop the complex coastal infrastructure engineering program required for the remaining sections of Oceanway in the coastal zone to be taken from inception to construction, and to ensure coastal resilience outcomes are met, coastal risk to assets and services is mitigated, and beach amenity targets are maintained. The position is responsible for all project development as well as oversight of the construction of these missing links.

We're looking for people who have:

Bachelor's degree in civil/Coastal/Environmental Engineering or the equivalent knowledge.

WHS Licence General Construction (White Card).

Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) status or commitment to achieve RPEQ.

Demonstrated significant experience designing, managing and construction oversight of complex coastal engineering programs of work including boardwalks, piled structures, seawalls, artificial reefs, etc.

Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills ensuring consistency and clarity of advice.

Highly developed analytical, problem solving and investigative skills to provide sound advice, options and recommendations, to influence project outcomes.

Ability to function autonomously, as well as part of a high performing team.

Proven time management, project management and organisational skills.

Achieved accreditation for your engineering judgement including chartership or RPEQ.

Self-motivated and proactive leadership.

Resilient and adaptable – the coastal zone is highly variable; there will be multiple junction points for each project which may require pivoting.

Stakeholder focused and collaborative.

Foresees problems and develops proactive solutions.

Critical and creative thinking skills.

Strategic thinking (big picture alignment with broader coastal planning and City goals, anticipate long-term impacts).

Passionate about coastal places – genuine connection to the coastal environment and a passion to ensure great coastal outcomes.
