The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking to employ a dynamic professional as a Head of Year. This is a full-time contract position.
The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years. The School is the largest independent boarding school in Queensland and the second largest co-educational boarding school in Australia. It is a leading school in regional Queensland and one of the foremost schools in regional Australia. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 144 years. REPORTS TO: Head of Secondary School (Students)

ABOUT THE ROLE:
Enhance and implementation of the School’s Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing Programme of a specific Year level (Year 7 to 12)
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pastoral Role
The Head of Year will take a leading role in the development and implementation of the Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing Programme. As the person responsible for students in a Year level, the Head of Year will:
Attend to student care and discipline including individual case management, parent communication and behavior management issues in consultation with the Head of Secondary School (Students);
Oversee student attendance and leave;
Consult, update and liaise with the Head of Secondary School (Academics) as required regarding academic matters, including the adjustment of student reports due to absence, illness or change of subject or school (progress, interim and semester);
Collaboration and liaison with RGS Boarding staff where applicable;
Conduct enrolment interviews;
Conduct coursing interview;
Be responsible for reviewing student reports (progress, interim and semester);
Lead Form Teachers to enhance and deliver to high quality the Form Class Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing Programme and special projects such as charity appeals and community service activities;
Liaise with parents as appropriate; and
Implement a Personal Development Programme for students to be covered during tutorials and/or Leadership. This includes staff management in this domain.
Collaborate and liaise with the Head of Leadership in the ongoing development of the Leadership for All Programme.
Administration and Organisation
The Head of Year will assist with administrative tasks and general organisation of the Secondary School, as required by and negotiated with the Head of Secondary School (Students). This will include an initial focus on:
Updating the annual Curriculum Handbook;
Regularly updating and developing items for the School newsletters;
Support and assist the other Heads of Year as required;
Further development and implementation of the Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing Programme; and
Maintaining parent-school relationships for the cohort.
The Head of Year will be expected to be actively involved in the Co-curricular and Service programmes and take on any reasonable requests from the Head of Secondary School (Students) or the Headmaster.
Teaching Load
The Head of Year teaches a maximum of 13 periods per week which may include tutorial and Leadership lessons.
Teachers are expected to:
Design and implement curriculum programmes that embrace the School's Learning Framework;
Create a positive classroom environment that enhances student learning;
Establish and review students' learning goals/outcomes and modify curriculum programmes accordingly (in consultation with the Head of Department);
Continuously reflect on teaching practices and fully participate in the School's Learning Programme;
Build relationships and share teaching insights with colleagues in order to coordinate activities for students;
Communicate with parents about student learning;
Demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to professional development;
Contribute to the School and wider community through involvement in co-curricular activities;
Maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.

Undergo periodic “national criminal history record” checks;
Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible rick to children and young people;
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks qualification check and professional registration checks.

Registered with Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).
Safeguarding Children Online Training Certificate.
