Due to continued growth, we are seeking a highly skilled Structural/Mechanical Engineer with proven previous experience in crane design to join our dynamic team.
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced engineer with at least 5 years in the design of overhead gantry cranes, including jib cranes, portal cranes, monorails and hoisting systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical and structural design principles, compliance with Australian Standards, and the ability to deliver innovative, safe, and cost-effective solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering (or higher qualification).
Minimum 5 years’ experience in the design of overhead gantry cranes, hoists, and jib cranes.
Proficiency in Inventor, AutoCAD (2023 or later) & SpaceGASS
Strong understanding of mechanical and structural design principles, engineering analysis, and load calculations.
Demonstrated experience in FEA, stress analysis, and fatigue analysis.
Knowledge of Australian Standards (AS1418 series) and state-specific crane regulations is essential.
Current registration with Engineers Australia (CPEng) or ability to obtain within 12 months.
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across design and manufacturing teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development: Engineer mechanical and structural components for overhead cranes, hoists, trolleys, and bridge structures, ensuring compliance with AS1418 and safety regulations.
Engineering Analysis: Perform static and dynamic structural analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and design of steel structures including crane supports, gantry systems, hoists, and bridges.
Technical Documentation: Preparation of detailed structural drawings, shop drawings, fabrication documents, technical reports, and engineering calculations complying with Australian and international standards.
Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to integrate designs into production and provide technical guidance during fabrication and installation.
Testing & Validation: Conduct prototype testing and design validation to meet safety and performance standards.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs meet all applicable standards and participate in risk assessments and safety reviews.
Continuous Improvement: Drive design improvements and cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or safety.
