
Support Worker Out of Home Care

Your role:
Shifts would likely include trips to and from school, in-community and in-home support shifts. Currently, we have a preference for afternoon availability. Weekend work is also available.
A Support Worker works with clients within the out of home care sector, they act as a positive role model in supporting children and young people to engage in pro-social activities and to assist in the development of independent life and living skills.
Some of the general tasks include:
- Transporting young people to and from school and/or appointments,
- Working with young people to set, develop and work towards their own goals
- Supporting caregivers
- Creating positive memories for children in care
- Case notes

About you:
- Ability to engage well over the phone and in person
- Strong communication skills, the ability to listen and take detailed notes
- Experience or knowledge of Best Interest Principles as outlined within the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005
- A commitment to working with vulnerable children, young people and families who have experienced trauma
- We would like our support workers to have knowledge of trauma and trauma-informed care
Qualifications:
- Minimum Certificate IV in Community Services or Child, Youth and Family Intervention, Youth Work or similar.
- Full Victorian Drivers Licence.
Desirable:
- Diploma in Community Services, Youth Services or similar.
The important stuff
- Remuneration- Hourly rate $38.65 plus 25% casual loading plus penalty rates for weekend shifts
- SCHADS award level 3
- Office location: Dandenong with outreach across the Southern region and sometimes Gippsland
- Pool cars available for use. Use of personal vehicles are not permitted.
