The role of the Gambling Support Officer is to provide high quality community engagement services including education, information, support and advocacy to assist individuals in gambling and financial problems and make informed choices. The Gambling Support Officer will work alongside the Gamblers Help Portfolio Holder and will be running a prevention program with the Aboriginal Community.

Key Selection Criteria:
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal/Torres Strait islander people.
• Ability to communicate with and support clients from marginalised and disadvantaged backgrounds.
• Ability to prioritise work commitments, working independently and interdependently whilst managing time appropriately, honestly and flexibly.
• Demonstrated experience in coordinating and delivering effective advice, support, and services.
• Ability to provide community engagement and initiate referrals and assist clients to complete paperwork and engage in appropriate services within MDAS and external service providers.
• Demonstrated strong organisational abilities and interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Take action to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and engage in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services.
Qualification/s:
Certificate IV in Social work or qualifications in a relevant field or working toward achieving the required qualifications.
Other Screening Requirements:
A current Driver’s License that allows you to drive in Australia.
A current Employee Working with Children Check card.
A current National Police Check.
