GPH operations cover a large regional geographical footprint in NSW and ACT. About the position The role of the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Officer focusses on delivering a population and preventative health approach to reduce Nicotine and Tobacco use among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the South-East NSW region. As part of the Aboriginal Health team, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the promotion and faciliatation of a range of programs, activities and workshops to encourage tobacco and nicotine cessation among priority communities. You will be passionate about promoting smoke-free and vape-free strategies to encourage non-smoking/vaping and quit behaviours. The position will involve a high level of engagement and collaboration with key stakeholders. This position can be flexible in location, able to be based out of our GPH hubs, including in Nowra, Ulladulla, Batemans Bay, Moruya, Bega, Goulburn or Queanbeyan. This opportunity is available full-time or part-time negotiable to 30 June 2027 with potential for extension. Full-time positions also have the option to enjoy a Rostered Day Off each month. This is an Aboriginal Identified Position - authorised under the S14d of the NSW Anti Discrimination Act 1977. We are looking for someone with:

  1. Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be an active member within the local community
  2. Minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Health Work, or qualifications in Health Promotion, Community Work or similar, or willingness to undertake training in this area
  3. Comprehensive understanding of the local community and social determinants of health
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with and understand the needs of Aboriginal communities
