Join the frontline of environmental sustainability with this hands-on opportunity at Council's Gregadoo Waste Management Centre (GWMC).
As a Resource Recovery Operator, you'll support a wide range of waste and recycling operations—both onsite and across rural transfer stations. Your work will include everything from load inspections, directing customers, and operating equipment, to site maintenance, emergency procedures, and supporting recycling processes.

- Four (4) permanent, full-time positions, based on 38 hours per week.
- Remuneration package of $2,412.82 gross per fortnight with the opportunity to progress to $2,895.38 gross per fortnight + superannuation (12%).
- Six (6) week rotating roster, working two (2) weekend out of every six (6) weeks.
- Penalty rates applicable for hours worked on weekends.
- Access to five (5) weeks annual leave per annum.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Resource Recovery Operator, you will be responsible to:
- Undertake waste management and recycling duties including; transfer station operations, load inspections and identifying waste materials; direct public and contractors to correct waste disposal areas; provide waste disposal advice; understand policies and conduct fire and emergency operations; move and empty waste skips; cardboard and paper pressing operations; styrene processing; tyre rim removal; and site safety and security.
- Undertake waste management and recycling duties outside of the transfer station, this will include site maintenance, unloading and loading activities, litter control, all onsite water management duties and visiting rural transfer stations for regular housekeeping duties. Where staff shortages are present at rural locations, support these sites during opening hours as required.
- Effectively manage the disposal of domestic waste, commercial and building waste, green waste and contaminated waste, ensuring maximum recyclable diversion and compliance with regulations and procedure.
- Provide quality customer service and support weighbridge operations where required.
- Utilise and maintain all items of plant, equipment, tools and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE/C) in accordance with Council standards.
- Complete documentation relevant to the role e.g. standard forms, payroll system, toolbox talk, site safety documentation including incident reports etc.
- Perform other duties in support of the GWMC team as directed, relevant to skills, competence and training.
Essential Requirements of the Position:
As the successful applicant, you will bring a strong mix of qualifications, skills and professional experience, including:
- Current Class C Driver's Licence (MR Licence Desirable).
- General Construction Induction Training Card.
- National Certificates of Competency - Forklift (LF) (or a willingness to obtain).
- Demonstrated experience relevant to the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
In accordance with Work Health and Safety legislation, the successful applicant is required to be vaccinated for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Tetanus and will be asked to provide evidence of this.
