Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Machine Operator to lead machinery operations across a variety of farm infrastructure and maintenance projects. In this role, you will operate equipment including excavators, loaders, bobcat, twin drum rollers, telehandlers, and tractors to perform earthworks, site preparation, and material handling with precision and safety.

While operating machinery is the core responsibility, you will also assist with general farm maintenance using your technical skills and machinery expertise. This role offers variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to contribute directly to the efficiency and success of farm operations.

Key Responsibilities

Primary – Machinery Operation

Operate machinery to complete earthworks, grading, trenching, levelling, and site preparation.

Perform precise machine operations in agricultural environments minimising damage to crops or infrastructure.

Conduct daily inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs to ensure machinery remains safe and operational.

Use machinery to lift, transport and place materials or structural components accurately.

Supporting – Construction & Fabrication

Use machinery to assist with fabrication and installation of farm infrastructure, including steel rails, fencing, and support structures.

Operate loaders, telehandlers, or excavators to lift and position components safely and efficiently.

Support fabrication tasks by positioning or handling materials.

Assist with light building works using machinery.

Additional – Farm Maintenance Support

Operate machinery to assist with routine farm maintenance such as fencing, irrigation, drainage, and material relocation.

Willing to learn new skills necessary for the functionality of the tree farm. E.g. chainsaws, EWPs, chippers

Support seasonal or operational tasks using machinery for soil preparation, planting area setup, and general farm upkeep.

Maintain a safe, organised, and efficient work environment.

Ensure all machinery and tools are properly stored and maintained

Qualifications:

Proven experience operating machinery in agricultural and or construction or earthworks settings.

Current MR (Medium Rigid) or HR (Heavy Rigid) driver’s licence.

Welding and fabrication experience (advantageous but not necessary).

Mechanical aptitude for basic troubleshooting and machinery maintenance.

Ability to read and interpret drawings and site plans.

Strong knowledge of OHS/WorkSafe regulations and safe machinery operation.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with fellow teammates.
