Your Opportunity

Join the Water and Wastewater department as an Assistant Treatment Plant Operator and play a pivotal role in maintaining water and wastewater systems in either Warwick or Stanthorpe. This permanent, full-time position within the Water and Wastewater department offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the operation and maintenance of the Treatment Plants while studying a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations. Join us in our commitment to delivering high-quality water services for the Southern Downs community.

Term: Full-time

Hours of Work: 76 hours per fortnight

Pay Level: $2448.39 per fortnight (Level 6), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading

On the completion of Certificate III Water Industry Operations, you move to level 8 (currently $2585.66 per fortnight)

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.

About the Department

The Water and Wastewater Department works within the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate and delivers on the water and wastewater obligations of Council, whilst providing a high level of customer service to the community. Council’s Water Team delivers the essential services of water and wastewater (sewerage) to the Southern Downs community. Water services starts at the source including the treatment and pumping of water, maintaining the network and providing water metering services. Wastewater services start with the property connection and includes maintaining the sewer network, managing pump stations and delivering wastewater treatment services at facilities across the region.

The complete Key Responsibilities of this role can be found in the Position Description. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Complete Certificate III in Water Industry Operations within 18 months of commencing in the position.
  • Assist the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in operating and maintaining the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant, recycled water assets, reservoirs and pump stations.
  • Maintain up to date record keeping and data input in the operational areas designated by the Supervisor.
  • Promptly notify the Primary Treatment Plant Operator of any problems occurring with the plant.

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • The legal right to live and work in Australia
  • A Class C (car) licence or greater is required in this role
  • A white construction card or the ability to obtain one is a mandatory requirement for this role
  • Enter and Work in confined Spaced competency or the ability to complete within 12 months of commencement,
  • Demonstrated commitment to completing a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations and moving into the role of Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
  • Ability to assist in the operation and maintenance of Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant systems and to complete work within agreed time frames.
  • Sound literacy, numeracy and problem solving skills including the ability to complete documentation in the workplace
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
