This isn’t just another counselling role. This is a chance to walk alongside people through some of life’s hardest moments—and help them feel less alone.

At Youturn, we believe deeply in the power of human connection. Through our StandBy Support After Suicide program—Australia’s leading national suicide postvention service—we support people and communities in the aftermath of suicide with compassion, understanding, and care that doesn’t come with a time limit.

You can find out more at www.youturn.org.au & www.standbysupport.com.au

We’re looking for an experienced and skilled clinician to join our team in supporting individuals, families and community members bereaved by a suicide. This role requires someone who understands that grief is a non-linear process and who can hold space and provide trauma informed, person centred care.

What this role is really about

You will be providing counselling for individuals and facilitating Bereavement Support Groups using an online platform. And you will be a calm and reliable presence offering tailored support to individuals and groups as they navigate their grief journey.

You will:

Provide counselling that’s grounded in evidence, informed by trauma, and guided by empathy.

Facilitate support groups that offer connection, understanding, and gentle structure.

Conduct assessments that lead with care, not checklists—and build care plans that reflect each person’s unique experience.

Collaborate with other services and practitioners to ensure wraparound support.

Work flexibly—online and in person—to reach people wherever they are, literally and emotionally.

Contribute your voice to service improvement and innovation in a national program.

Who we’re looking for

You’re likely a psychologist, counsellor or mental health social worker who’s walked beside people in grief, trauma or crisis and you will have understanding and experience working in grief, loss or bereavement.

You bring:

Tertiary qualifications in counselling, psychology, social work, or mental health, with professional registration (PACFA Clinical, ACA L3, AASW, or AHPRA).

At least 2 years of supervised counselling experience, ideally including suicide bereavement or postvention.

Confidence in trauma-informed and grief-informed practice, including risk assessment, safety planning, and crisis response.

Experience delivering counselling and group facilitation in a way that is person-led, culturally sensitive and emotionally attuned.

Strong digital literacy—you’re comfortable using telehealth and secure systems and supporting clients in hybrid service models.

A current driver’s licence and relevant clearances (WWCC, LCS check, etc.).

It’s a bonus if you’ve got postgraduate training in grief or bereavement, ASIST certification, or lived experience with suicide bereavement—but what matters most is how you show up, connect, and care.

What it’s like to work with us

At Youturn and StandBy, our culture is built on real relationships—not just between staff and clients, but between colleagues, teams and communities. We:

Care for each other, not just the work.

Trust our people to do what’s right and give them the tools and support to do it well.

Prioritise supervision, reflection, and learning—it’s essential in this work.

Celebrate diversity and create inclusive, safe spaces for staff and clients alike.

You’ll join a national team that’s respected for our leadership in suicide postvention, and a local team that’s warm, grounded, and passionate about making a difference.

Benefits for Youturn Team Members

We offer a generous remuneration package with benefits designed to support your career and lifestyle goals.

Enjoy 12% superannuation plus access to generous salary packaging of up to $15,900, plus $2,650 meal entertainment benefits, to further maximise your take-home pay, offering you even greater advantages such as partial exemptions for Remote Area Benefits, Relocation Expenses and Car Parking (if eligible).

Flexibility: Enjoy work-life balance with flexibility for negotiating start/finish times, tailoring your career to your lifestyle!

Wellness Leave: Recharge with 5 days of paid wellness leave each year (pro-rata).

Paid Parental Leave: Unlock 12 weeks of paid parental leave benefits after just one year of dedicated service.

Annual Leave Loading: Receive additional pay with annual leave loading.

For everyone who shares our passion

Youturn is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and clients.

We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the LGBTIQA+ community, people with a disability, candidates from culturally diverse backgrounds, and people with lived experience.

How to apply

If this role speaks to your heart as well as your skills and experience —we’d love to hear from you.

Submit your resume and a brief cover letter via SEEK that tells us why this role, this work, and this team are right for you.
