Your next career opportunity
As a Laboratory Technician in the Chemical, Materials and Manufacturing Cluster, you'll play a crucial role in supporting cutting-edge research and teaching activities. You'll have the opportunity to operate and maintain advanced manufacturing equipment, including 3D printers and injection moulding machines. Your expertise will be instrumental in guiding students and staff, ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory resources, and contributing to innovative projects in manufacturing and industrial engineering.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operate and Maintain Advanced Equipment: Manage a range of manufacturing equipment, including 3D printers, injection moulding machines, coordinate measuring machine and recycling extruders.
  • Oversee fabrication processes: Provide support with 3D printing, silicon casting including CAD/CAM designing for components, and coordinate external processes including aluminium casting, sheet metal fabrication, and CNC machining to support teaching and research outcomes.
  • Support Teaching and Research Activities: Provide technical expertise and support for academic staff and students, including demonstrations and instruction on equipment use.
  • Manage Laboratory Operations: Oversee inventory, procurement, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and materials, ensuring efficient and safe operations.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a hands-on professional with a relevant degree or trade qualification, experienced in operating and maintaining advanced manufacturing equipment, and passionate about supporting research and education in a dynamic laboratory environment.

You must also:

  • Have hands-on experience with 3D printers, injection moulding machines, and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Be proficient in CAD/CAM software for designing and modifying components.
  • Possess strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving equipment issues.
  • Have excellent communication skills and a customer service mindset.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety and compliance with laboratory regulations.
  • Have excellent organisation and time management skills,
