The Opportunity
You will lead teaching and research in the Medical Laboratory Science program within our Biomedical Sciences discipline, driving excellence in both education and scholarly output. In this key role, you will design and deliver engaging, high-quality histopathology education across our Sippy Downs and Moreton Bay campuses, while contributing to research, supervising students, and providing academic leadership. Drawing on your strong diagnostic expertise in histopathology, you will also foster partnerships with local pathology providers, helping shape the next generation of skilled biomedical scientists.
This position will suit an academic with substantial industry and/or clinical experience, a passion for impactful teaching, and a commitment to ongoing professional growth and research. We particularly encourage applications from those with established connections to professional pathology bodies, whose experience reflects industry best practice, and who share the University’s values of sustainability, integrity, and community.
You will:
- contribute to learning and teaching practices in histopathology and related biomedical science disciplines;
- undertake and publish high-impact research;
- play a part in successful competitive research grant applications; and
- contribute to course coordination, student supervision, academic governance, and school-level initiatives that support student experience and success.
About you:
Our ideal candidate will bring extensive diagnostic expertise in histopathology, coupled with a passion for teaching and a proven ability to inspire the next generation of medical laboratory scientists. With experience in designing and delivering engaging, high-quality curricula and assessments, you will support student learning and success across a variety of educational settings. A deep understanding of pedagogical best practices and a commitment to fostering inclusive, student-centred learning environments are essential.
Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a dedication to academic excellence will enable you to contribute meaningfully to both departmental goals and interdisciplinary initiatives. A demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and academic leadership will position you to help shape the future direction of the program and support a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
You will possess:
- academic and professional qualifications in Medical Laboratory Science;
- completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant field or equivalent standing (e.g. AIMS Fellowship);
- substantial histopathology diagnostic experience in a clinical or pathology service environment;
- demonstrated teaching experience in higher education, including course coordination;
- an established track record in research, including refereed publications and research supervision;
- membership of, and sound connections with, relevant professional bodies (e.g. AIMS, HGA);
- evidence of ongoing professional development and academic contributions to institutional culture and governance.
Desirable
- demonstrated effectiveness as a teacher, supported by student feedback and peer reviews;
- the ability to conceive, develop and deliver higher education curricula in biomedical science;
- recognition for excellence in teaching, research, or leadership within histopathology.
