We’re seeking a talented Laboratory Assistant to help develop groundbreaking projects in biosensor and medical device development. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to create cutting-edge solutions that transform wearable healthcare, working with a dynamic, cross-functional team dedicated to innovation and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately prepare chemical mixtures and solutions for biosensor prototypes.
Fabricate and assemble microfluidic components, electrodes, and sensor substrates.
Perform chemical synthesis, purification and characterization
Follow detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and safety.
Handle flammable solvents (e.g. ethanol, acetone) and toxic reagents (e.g. acids/bases) under fume hoods and within controlled environments.
Maintain inventory of chemicals, glassware, and consumables; perform routine equipment checks and cleaning.
Accurately document experimental procedures, batch records, and quality‑control data in electronic lab notebooks.
Collaborate with senior scientists to troubleshoot fabrication steps and improve protocols.
About You – Skills & Experience
A degree in chemistry or a related field (required)
A strong foundation in laboratory procedures and safety protocols for handling hazardous materials.
Experience in performing organic or materials synthesis and purification
Knowledge in interpreting material characterisation data
Proven competency in handling flammable and toxic chemicals safely (knowledge of Australian Dangerous Goods standards a must).
Strong attention to detail and commitment to following PPE and safety protocols without exception.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, focused team.
Excellent record‑keeping and basic data‑analysis skills.
A sense of responsibility: you understand that precision today prevents problems tomorrow.
