Aboriginal Private Rental Assistance Program (APRAP) - Broker
Full-time, 38 hours a week
This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
About the Role
The Aboriginal Private Rental Assistance Program (APRAP) – Broker role will generate and maintain access opportunities in the private rental market ensuring the delivery of culturally safe services to vulnerable or disadvantaged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander households in the Goulburn region.
The Aboriginal Private Rental Assistance Program - Broker will achieve this through:
· Developing strong relationships with Real Estate Agents and Landlords to leverage opportunities in the private rental market.
· Facilitate and improve household capacity to secure and sustain ongoing affordable private rental, this includes ensuring that all household members are in receipt of relevant government payment or subsidies.
· Building a comprehensive understanding and links with local agencies to support prevention and early intervention to address issues which may be contributing to the risk of tenancy breakdown.
· Administration and distribution of brokerage funds according to eligibility and program guidelines.
· The APRAP Broker role will provide time limited support to 100 households per year in the Goulburn region.
This position will work alongside APRAP Plus, engage with appropriate internal or external support workers and agencies in the local area to provide better access to appropriate, affordable, and sustainable private rental housing outcomes for Aboriginal community members in the Goulburn region.
About You
To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:
· You are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
· Qualification and/or high level of experience in social work, community services, housing, or real estate related discipline.
· High level of administrative skills and computer literacy, including use of Word, Database and maintaining a electronic diary management system.
· Current Victorian Driver’s License with no restrictions is essential.
· A demonstrated knowledge of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, culture and an understanding of factors that impact the housing, health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and their family networks.
· Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community and culture and the role that Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative provides in the Goulburn region.
· Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including strong advocacy and negotiation ability.
· The ability to make informed decisions whilst maintaining confidentiality and being able to balance priorities under pressure efficiently and professionally.
· Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment.
· Strong budgeting and money management skills are required.
· Knowledge of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Residential Tenancies Act (Victoria)1997.
· A strong understanding of homelessness, the private rental market and real estate sectors would be highly regarded.
