Bush Kindy Program Leader - Childcare/Preschool
St Nicholas Preschool
Posted 2 days ago
We’re looking for a passionate Diploma-qualified or Early Childhood Teacher to lead our Bush Kindy program at St Nicks. The successful educator will have a passion for supporting children to engage with nature, manage risk, and learn through play in local natural environments, including parks and green spaces. An understanding of the NQF and a collaborative, respectful approach are essential. Qualifications or experience in nature-based pedagogy will be highly regarded, but are not essential.
This is an exciting opportunity to not only continue our much-loved program but also develop it to run across two Yarralumla locations. The successful candidate will also receive fully funded Level 3 Forest School Leader training in September 2025 with Birrigai Outdoor School – a fantastic investment in your professional growth.
About the role
Our Bush Kindy runs daily, just a short walk from the centre. Working with a small group of 10 preschoolers and another teacher, you’ll spend the day (9:30am–3:30pm) exploring local parks, embracing the Yarralumla community, and supporting children to connect deeply with nature.
You will:
Plan and lead nature-based learning experiences that encourage curiosity, risk-taking, and respect for the environment
Work alongside the Preschool teacher to observe, document, and extend children’s learning
Collaborate with colleagues and families in a respectful, inclusive way
Help shape the next chapter of our Bush Kindy program across two Yarralumla sites
About us
At St Nicks, we’re a community where creativity, curiosity, and culture thrive. Our approach includes:
Cultural diversity – Celebrating Greek language and culture while embracing all cultures
Nature connection – Bush Kindy three days a week, plus gardening sessions twice a week
Project-based learning – Encouraging deep, child-led exploration
Community involvement – Building meaningful connections locally
If you’re ready to take learning outdoors, inspire young minds, and lead a program that’s growing in exciting new ways, we’d love to hear from you. Flexible working arrangements (full-time or part-time) will be considered.
