The Energy Climate Change & Sustainability (ECCS) Group within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is currently seeking a strategic and experienced leader to steward NSW’s electricity network and gas and fuel pipeline infrastructure policy frameworks as Director Network & Pipeline Policy.
Within DCCEEW, the newly established Energy Infrastructure Division ensures a safe, secure, and reliable electricity and gas supply through the energy transition. The Division is responsible for policy stewardship, safety and technical regulation, technical advice and managing agreements for gas and electricity infrastructure investment and operations.
About the Role
The Director, Network & Pipeline Policy plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of safe, secure, and reliable electricity and gas supply through the energy transition.
- Lead the stewardship and reform of NSW’s economic, competition, safety, and technical policy frameworks for electricity networks and gas and fuel pipelines.
- Provide expert advice to inform NSW positions on national energy reforms.
- Deliver government interventions to support priority infrastructure projects that maintain system security in the short to medium term.
- Oversee high-performing teams managing legislation, regulation, and implementation of network and pipeline policy.
- Represent NSW in national forums and coordinate policy direction with key delivery partners including EnergyCo, AEMO Services, and the Energy Security Corporation.
- Drive reforms in transmission planning, contestability, licensing, and access arrangements.
- Modernise safety and technical regulatory frameworks to align with future infrastructure needs.
- Monitor and advise on revenue determinations, cost recovery mechanisms, and regulatory incentive schemes.
About You
You are a strategic leader with deep experience in the energy sector, ideally with:
- A background within electricity or gas supply infrastructure development, strategy, or regulatory affairs.
- Experience in government (state or federal), market bodies or regulated infrastructure portfolios with a clear passion for advancing the energy transition.
- Proven ability to manage large teams and complex portfolios.
- Direct experience in network or pipeline development, energy policy, or project delivery.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience and training.
