About the Opportunity:
John Paul College invites exceptional educators and leaders to apply for the position of Dean of Academic Welfare – Primary School, commencing in January 2026.
As a key member of the Primary Leadership Team, the Dean of Academic Welfare plays a vital role in leading a proactive, whole-school approach to student wellbeing, behaviour, and pastoral care.
This position focuses on building teacher capacity, embedding restorative practices, and fostering a culture of care and consistency that enables every student to thrive.
The Dean of Academic Welfare leads with compassion, strategic clarity, and a steadfast commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all students.
The Dean of Academic Welfare - Primary School at John Paul College is responsible for:
Leading and driving a whole-school Academic Welfare program aligned to College values and the IB Learner Profile.
Promoting consistent, school-wide behaviour expectations and restorative practices that support safe and inclusive classrooms.
Building staff capability in behaviour management, wellbeing strategies, and inclusive practice.
Overseeing class placements using data-informed tools, ensuring balanced and considered groupings.
Leading transitions in collaboration with JPIC and overseeing support for students with diverse learning and wellbeing needs.
Fostering strong, confident partnerships with parents and carers.
Being a visible, relational leader who actively contributes to the strategic direction and daily operations of the Primary School.
What You’ll Bring
We're looking for an exceptional Primary Leader who is passionate about nurturing young minds and is ready to make a meaningful impact in our dynamic learning community.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
A proven track record of impact in student wellbeing and behaviour leadership within a primary school context.
Deep knowledge of restorative and inclusive practices.
Strong capacity to coach and empower teachers to improve classroom management and student engagement.
The ability to manage student needs and lead school-wide initiatives with clarity and compassion.
Outstanding communication skills and a collaborative mindset that builds trust with students, staff, and families.
Demonstrated expertise in data-informed decision-making and digital tools.
A passion for supporting every child to feel safe, connected, and ready to learn.
A commitment to upholding the College’s core values of mutual respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence.
Qualifications & Compliance
Current QCT registration and relevant teaching qualifications (Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred).
Current First Aid certification.
Eligibility to work in Australia.
Willingness to undergo employment screening and meet child safety legislative requirements.
