About the role

This role is central to the optimisation and oversight of UniSA STEM and Future Industries Institute’s chemical, biological, and analytical laboratories. You’ll provide expert technical support across a wide range of equipment and processes, ensure compliance with PC2 and WHS regulations, and contribute to research and consultancy outcomes through hands-on maintenance, training, and experimental guidance. From managing inventories and commissioning new technologies to developing SOPs and mentoring staff, your work will directly enhance the safety, reliability, and innovation of the University’s laboratory operations.

To be successful you will need

  • A postgraduate qualification, in chemistry, biology/microbiology, or a closely related discipline or significant equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience in managing a Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) laboratory environment and knowledge of biological safety requirements (e.g. OGTR regulations)
  • Extensive experience in general biological and microbiological techniques (e.g. Cell, protein, DNA, RNA analysis; antimicrobial sensitivity testing, gram staining, tissue culture and PCR)
  • Demonstrated experience training researchers/students in the use of complex instrumentation to staff and students from diverse backgrounds, different disciplines, and with different levels of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in management, maintenance and repair of specialised laboratory equipment
