Lysine Australia Pty Ltd (LAPL) are offering a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting research-driven company operating in the Biotechnology sector. LAPL is seeking a PhD-holding scientist to join the R&D team here in Brisbane to perform bacterial fermentation and RT-qPCR protocol development. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include ongoing fermentation research and supporting novel strain development by providing positive confirmation of mutations involving changes to gene expression. Must be experienced in establishing RT-qPCR protocols with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities. Experience with bacterial fermentation, particularly operating bench-top bioreactors, is also a requirement.
The successful candidate will be:
PhD with relevant experience in fermentation and RT-qPCR.
Detail-oriented with the ability to critique results and implement thoughtful solutions to improve them.
Considerable experience with qPCR, including protocol development and data analysis.
Able to reproducibly isolate high-quality RNA from kit-based extractions.
Solid understanding of the concepts underpinning batch and fed-batch fermentation.
Experience setting up, maintaining and pulling down bench-top bioreactors.
Proficient in basic microbiology techniques to ensure sterile culturing and inoculation of bioreactors.
Excellent written communication skills, with particular attention on maintaining a high-quality laboratory notebook.
Once trained, contribute to the overall direction of fermentation strategy.
Ability to work flexible schedules (full-time hours anywhere between 6am-8pm, 7 days a week) to meet demands of the fermentation is essential.
Additionally:
Once trained, able to perform fermentation independently and unsupervised.
Must be self-starter / high energy to execute works independently.
You must have the right to work permanently in Australia.
Job Offer
Immediate start
6-month probation period
$110,000 p.a. + super = $123,200 package after a successful probation.
